SAGEX role: beneficiary, network coordinator.

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is one of the UK’s leading research-focused higher education institutions. With more than 25,000 students, 4,000 staff and an annual turnover of £400m, it carries out teaching and research across a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering. QMUL is one of 24 leading UK universities represented by the Russell Group, that are committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience, excellent graduate employability and unrivalled links with business and the public sector.

Centre for Research in String Theory

SAGEX researchers at QMUL are based in the Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP), within the School of Physics and Astronomy. Researchers in the CRST conduct fundamental research in many important areas of modern theoretical physics. Current research interests include:

  • Perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of (non-)supersymmetric quantum field theories, with particular emphasis on the mathematical structure of the scattering amplitudes in these theories
  • The dynamics of branes in string theory and M-theory
  • Dualities in gauge and string theory.

The group has a long-standing reputation for pioneering work in string theory and in twistor-inspired approaches to scattering amplitudes. Its research strategy is to maintain this by rigorous standards of recruitment at all levels, and by fostering an environment that promotes the best research.
